PETALING JAYA: Melaka DAP vice-chairman Khoo Poay Tiong has been unanimously selected to lead the state chapter following Tey Kok Kiew’s resignation on Thursday.

Khoo, who is Kota Melaka MP, told FMT that the decision to appoint him as Melaka DAP chairman was made at a meeting attended by 15 of the 20-member state committee last night

“I consider this appointment to be an interim one as Melaka DAP will hold its election at the end of this year,” he said in a statement. “I will try my best to ensure the stability of the party and the Melaka unity government.”

Khoo, 54, was the Ayer Keroh assemblyman from 2008 to 2018 and has been the Kota Melaka MP since 2018.

Khoo thanked Tey for helming DAP Melaka for two terms. Tey first led DAP Melaka from December 2015 and resigned in November 2021 following the party’s poor performance at the state election.

He was re-elected as the state chairman in January 2023 before stepping down on Thursday.
