#TECH: Netflix to charge RM13 per person for sharing of password by users from different household

KUALA LUMPUR: Netflix has set a new subscribe rule today whereby sharing of password is only permitted to users staying in the same household.

The company said it will be sending an email to members who are sharing Netflix outside their household in Malaysia.

“A Netflix account is for use by one household. Everyone living in that household can use Netflix wherever they are — at home, on the go, on holiday — and take advantage of new features like Transfer Profile and Manage Access and Devices,” the company said in a statement.

If subscribers want to share their password with those who are not in the same household, they need to pay RM13 per person, per month, said the company.

This follows a move by the company to expand password-sharing crackdown worldwide yesterday.

According to an AFP report, Netflix said early this year that more than 100 million households were sharing accounts at the service, “impacting our ability to invest in great new TV and films.”

As a result, the company announced it was expanding the policy to more than 100 countries.
