GEORGE TOWN: Penang ferry services from the Sultan Abdul Halim and Raja Tun Uda terminals will be free for all Malaysians on the first and second days of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Penang Port Commission (SPPP) chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said the free ferry rides reflect the commission’s ongoing commitment, together with Penang Port Sdn Bhd (PPSB), to facilitate public travel, particularly during the festive season.
“This free ferry service is not only aimed at reducing traffic congestion in Penang, but also to encourage the use of more sustainable and efficient public transportation,” he said.
Yeoh said the commission is also sponsoring community programmes under the “Kids Go Free | Aidilfitri Special” campaign at the Penang Ferry Museum.
Under the programme, Malaysian children aged 12 and below can enjoy free admission to the museum from March 23 to 25.
Yeoh added that the initiative also supports SPPP’s efforts to strengthen the Penang Ferry Museum’s role as a learning centre and heritage-based attraction.
