Stop slandering Bersatu, Supreme Council member tells Hamzah

PETALING JAYA: A Bersatu Supreme Council member hit back at former deputy president Hamzah Zainudin, urging him to stop slandering the party following his remarks about a supposed faction seeking closer ties with Pakatan Harapan (PH).

Dr Afif Bahardin said the opposition leader appeared intent on attacking Bersatu rather than focusing on government policies.

“During the month of Ramadan, it would be better for the soon-to-be former opposition leader to reduce his mud-slinging.

“He seems very determined to pounce on Bersatu,” he told FMT.

Afif, who was with PKR before joining Bersatu in 2020, said that as opposition leader, Hamzah should focus on playing his check-and-balance role.

“It appears he has not done that for a long time.”

Earlier this evening, Hamzah claimed that a faction within Bersatu was attempting to move the party closer to PH.

According to Berita Harian, Hamzah alleged that the group trying to forge closer ties with PH was linked to PKR. Hamzah, however, did not name anyone in particular.

He also questioned whether the party leadership would take disciplinary action against those allegedly attempting to forge ties with PH.

Hamzah further questioned if action would be taken against this faction, pointing out that he was sacked after meeting Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, the Umno president.

The Larut MP was expelled from Bersatu last month amid a leadership tussle with party president Muhyiddin Yassin.
