PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Airlines has further extended its suspension of flights to and from Doha until March 20 in view of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Flights were initially suspended from Feb 28 to March 13 but the national carrier decided to further extend the suspension because of “continued developments in the region’s security environment”.
Its flights to Jeddah and Madinah, Saudi Arabia, as well as London, UK, and Paris, France, are proceeding as usual, it said.
“The airline continues to closely monitor the situation through ongoing risk assessments and relevant notice to airmen before resuming operations.
“The airline is also increasing widebody capacity between Asia and Europe to support onward journeys and reunite families, with flights operating on carefully planned alternative routes that avoid affected regions.
“The safety of passengers and crew remains our highest priority,” said Malaysia Airlines in a statement.
Tensions in the Middle East escalated last month after the US and Israel struck Iran, which responded with retaliatory missile strikes on Israeli territory and US military facilities in the region.
