PETALING JAYA: Malaysian badminton legend Tan Yee Khan has died at the age of 86 after passing away peacefully in his sleep overnight.
His son, Kenneth Tan, told FMT that Yee Khan’s death was discovered by his carer this morning at 7.30am.
Primarily a doubles player, Yee Khan became renowned in the 1960s with fellow late badminton great and partner Ng Boon Bee.
They unleashed destruction on the world’s top pairs with springing net kills, astounding net interceptions, ferocious attacks and sprightly jump smashes.
Yee Khan won numerous titles together with Ng — the 1965 and 1966 All-England titles, as well as two gold medals at the Asian Games in Jakarta (1962) and in Bangkok (1966).
He was also part of the national badminton squad that won the Thomas Cup in Jakarta in 1967.
The wake for Yee Khan will be held today and tomorrow from noon until 10pm at the Vcare Memorial Centre in Ipoh, with the final rites to be held on Wednesday from 10am at the Papan Memorial Park Crematorium nearby.
