PH denies spending RM8mil on social media efforts against Warisan

Communications minister Fahmi Fadzil acknowledged that three cases of racially charged messages posted online had been reported to MCMC.

PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan (PH) has denied claims that it spent RM8 million in public funds to fund a social media campaign against Warisan for the Sabah election.

PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil said the coalition “does not have that kind of funding”.

“I don’t know what he’s talking about,” Harian Metro reported him as saying.

Shafie previously accused PH of using RM8 million in public funds to push racially charged messages online, aimed at tarnishing his party’s image.

The Semporna MP said such tactics would distract from Sabah’s real development needs.

Fahmi, who is also communications minister, acknowledged that three such cases had been reported to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

“However, I cannot reveal their contents or details as investigations are ongoing. One is still under investigation and two are being considered by the deputy public prosecutor,” he said.

Fahmi also spoke out against campaigning based on race, religion and royalty issues.

“This is not allowed. Campaign in a healthy way.

“Use smart and sensible arguments. We must not act in ways that can harm harmony and affect unity.”

He said MCMC and his ministry would act if complaints are lodged on 3R issues.
