Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari’s press secretary said the allegations are ‘stories’ being spread in a WhatsApp group through a cloak-and-dagger approach.
PETALING JAYA: Amirudin Shari’s aide has slammed an alleged smear campaign against his boss as new anonymous allegations implicating the Selangor menteri besar emerge.
Amirudin’s press secretary, Jay Jay Denis, said the creation of another WhatsApp group following allegations levelled against another officer two weeks ago made it clear that there was a coordinated attempt to tarnish the PKR vice-president’s reputation.
He dismissed the latest claims, saying the person behind the allegations should file a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission along with evidence to back his or her assertions.
“By spreading stories through a cloak-and-dagger approach in a WhatsApp group, it’s beginning to seem clear that this is an attempt at a political smear against the menteri besar’s office by a disgruntled individual clutching at straws to advance their political career,” he told FMT.
Earlier this month, an administrator created a new WhatsApp group with Selangor assemblymen from both the government and the opposition, including Amirudin, as well as at least two reporters.
The person alleged that an aide to the menteri besar had “become a millionaire” since Amirudin assumed office, owning a RM3 million bungalow and taking his family on frequent luxury holidays overseas.
Jay Jay said the aide involved had already reported the matter to the authorities.
Today, another WhatsApp group was created and a document was shared, alleging that Amirudin was linked to the unexplained wealth amassed by his aide.
The WhatsApp user claimed that Amirudin had likewise amassed millions as he could afford two luxury cars after becoming menteri besar.
The user said “many more episodes” concerning Amirudin and his family would be released in the near future.
