Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi said Sabah PAS chief Aliakbar Gulasan should have quit as a nominated assemblyman after GRS started backing Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
PETALING JAYA: An Umno leader has taken a swipe at PAS and the head of its Sabah chapter, Aliakbar Gulasan, over the latter’s decision to stay on as a nominated assemblyman appointed by the Sabah government.
Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi said Aliakbar should have made the dignified decision to relinquish the post to which he was appointed in 2020 after Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) started backing Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
The Johor assemblyman also said PAS was a hypocrite for staying silent on Aliakbar’s position while criticising GRS leaders who left Bersatu and Perikatan Nasional (PN) after the 2022 general election (GE15).
“You have no principles. You only cared about being an appointed assemblyman, when you were never elected by the people.
“It was (GRS chairman and chief minister) Hajiji Noor, whom (PN chairman) Muhyiddin Yassin accused of betraying PN, who appointed you.
“When the seven Bersatu MPs stated support for the prime minister, they were urged to vacate their seats. As a PN member, PAS should have done the same to Aliakbar,” Puad said in a Facebook post.
Hajiji had led an exodus of Sabah Bersatu leaders following GE15, as they stated support for Anwar and took over Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah.
Aliakbar stayed on as a nominated assemblyman, a role given by the Sabah government, even after GRS roped Pakatan Harapan into the state administration.
