KL traffic police said the 32-year-old driver turned himself in after a video showing him driving the car with a bare rear rim went viral.
PETALING JAYA: Kuala Lumpur police have arrested a man spotted driving an SUV with its right rear tyre “completely shredded” on Saturday morning.
A recording of the incident, showing a motorcyclist trying to flag down the driver of the Range Rover Velar as sparks flew from the bare rim, has gone viral.
In a statement, city traffic chief Zamzuri Isa said the driver, who was allegedly drunk during the 8am incident, turned himself in at the Kuala Lumpur traffic police station at 10:30am.
“The car was travelling on the Sungai Besi Highway heading towards Taman Naga Emas with its right rear tyre completely burst and shredded … before stopping at the traffic lights near the Jalan Kuchai Maju intersection,” he said.
“The man claimed the tyre burst after hitting a pothole and that he continued driving because he lived nearby.”
Police will conduct a urine test and a breathalyser test on the 32-year-old man as part of the investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.
