DAP names 7 candidates for Sabah polls

Sabah DAP chief Phoong Jin Zhe and his deputy, Chan Foong Hin, will be vying for the Likas and Tanjung Aru seats, respectively.

PETALING JAYA: DAP will contest seven seats in the Sabah state election, including two that it lost to Warisan via defections following the 2020 polls.

Sabah DAP chief Phoong Jin Zhe is set to move away from Luyang, which he had represented for two terms, to vie for the Likas seat while his deputy, Chan Foong Hin, will contest in Tanjung Aru.

Chan, the Kota Kinabalu MP and deputy agriculture minister, will be hoping to wrest Tanjung Aru from Warisan, which has held the seat for two terms.

State DAP vice-chairman Jannie Lasimbang will meanwhile, be hoping to be elected to a third term as the assemblyman for Kapayan.

Sabah DAP will also be seeking to regain the Sri Tanjong and Elopura seats, which it won in 2020 before the two assemblymen — Justin Wong and Calvin Chong — defected to Warisan.

It will also seek to defend Tanjong Papat, which was previously represented by Frankie Poon, the former Sabah DAP chief who left the party just last month.

Vivian Wong – Elopura
Chan Loong Wei – Luyang
Tang Szu Ching – Tanjong Papat

The Sabah election will be held on Nov 29, with nomination day set for Nov 15, and early voting on Nov 25.

The are 73 seats up for grabs in total.
