When the economy gets bad, people tend to live a little less too. We save more by going less often to the shopping mall, change plans from a vacation in Europe to Lombok instead, or even better, vacation at home.
After all, what can be better than a warm bed, a chubby neutered cat by your side and a cup of coffee?
But it appears the bad economy has a way of shrinking your living space too. Take it from a doctor couple who decided to move into a living space that looked more like the room Harry Potter lived in on Private Drive.
The video can be found at: https://x.com/bharianmy/status/1985531078182879510. According to the couple, the decision was because they wanted to save up money for a rainy day.
Netizens, however, were divided over their extreme money saving technique. “Where do they defecate?” wondered netizen @krkicstyle to which several others replied that the room was inside the clinic they operated.
The winning reply, perhaps, came from @tradexfx:
Prompted by the video, @RrrrrritaE added that she once went to a clinic specialising in gastro in HKL and found the room to be windowless. According to her, the small room was also shared by two doctors too.
“I am worried for the mental health of our specialist doctors,” she said, adding that they were sitting the whole day in that small space.
The doctors had supporters too, such as @Ronnie50604835 who said there was no right or wrong. “It is a choice. But less debt means less headache which is a truth. So do not criticise,” he added.
On our part, we think a 57 seconds long video would have some difficulty conveying the true depth of their financial distress to resort to living in such a small space.
Either that or they decided in an unconventional, minimalist way to lighten the burden of living. People shouldn’t judge, but to find strength in the resolve displayed by this brave couple. —Nov 5, 2025
