PETALING JAYA: The Selangor government has ordered 19 owners of plots of land in Kampung Jawa, Klang, to vacate the site in seven days to make way for the construction of a stalled stretch of the West Coast Expressway (WCE).

State housing executive councillor Borhan Aman Shah said this decision was made after negotiations were finalised at a meeting between the residents and related agencies today.

Borhan said the land acquisition process had been legally completed under the Land Acquisition Act 1960 in 2023, Berita Harian reported.

However, the 19 landowners still refused to vacate the site despite 75% of RM9.85 million in compensation having already been paid to them.

“If they still fail to vacate the site, they will be evicted after seven days,” he said, adding that highway concessionaire WCE Sdn Bhd Bhd will be allowed to enter the site from Nov 10 for clean-up works before commencing construction.

The 233km-long highway runs from Banting in Selangor to Taiping, Perak, with eight of its 11 sections having been opened. Completion of the highway is scheduled for 2027.

Several stretches in Selangor have stalled over problems with land acquisition and technical adjustments.

The project drew public attention after reports emerged that 19 residents in Kampung Jawa refused to relocate, even though most of the land cquisition process had been completed.
