PETALING JAYA: The suspect believed involved in the fatal shooting of a Malaysian man in Sungai Golok, Kelantan, on Saturday night has been arrested.
A spokesman for the Sungai Golok police station said the suspect, who is a former import player for the state football team, surrendered himself.
“The suspect turned himself in at the Sungai Golok police station last night,” the spokesman was quoted as saying by Utusan Malaysia.
The suspect has also handed over a pistol believed to have been used in the incident.
Yesterday, Kelantan police chief Yusoff Mamat said the former player, who is believed to have dual citizenship, is the main suspect in the case.
Yusoff said the 33-year-old victim had a history of four drug offences since 2020 and had entered Thailand using a border pass on Saturday morning.
Fuad Fahmie Ghazali, 33, from Kampung Kepas Apam in Pasir Mas, Kelantan, was shot eight times at about 6.40pm on Saturday.
He died hours later while receiving treatment at Sungai Golok Hospital.
A Narathiwat police spokesman said information obtained from witnesses at the scene indicated that the attack may have been related to a debt dispute.
