KUALA TERENGGANU: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN)) in Terengganu recorded 517 cases for various offences, with the total seizure valued at RM1.92 million from Jan 1 to Dec 21 this year.
Its director, Saharuddin Mohd Kia said it was the result of 50,651 inspections carried out at all business premises in eight districts in the state.
He said five of the cases were charged in court and the offenders were fined a total of RM206,300 under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 and the Consumer Protection Act 1999.
“The 571 cases involved various offences under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011, the Weights and Measures Act 1972, the Trade Descriptions Act 2011 and the Trademarks Act 2019.
“Compounds worth RM186,450 were issued against the errant traders,” he said at the launch of the Christmas Season Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP) today.
Saharuddin said the Terengganu KPDN also organised 315 Rahmah Sales Programme statewide from Jan 1 to Dec 20, benefitting 395,661 visitors, mainly from the lower income group (B40), and generating RM13 million in sales. – Bernama
