Kelantan FC coach to head back to Indonesia next season

KOTA BHARU: Kelantan FC head coach Angel Alfredo Vera has confirmed holding talks to join a club in Indonesia next season.

The 50-year-old said he decided to return to Indonesia after a poor season with Kelantan FC in the Malaysia League (M-League) this season, where the club finished bottom of the 14-teams standings with just two wins, two draws and 22 defeats.

“I have held discussions with them (the Indonesian club). I think for now I should go back there as my family is still there.

“I want to continue building my career there. Perhaps, in the future if teams here (in the M-League) like me, I can return,” he told reporters after his team were thrashed 6-2 by Kelantan United Football Club (KUFC) at the Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium here last night.

Argentine Alfredo Vera was recruited by Kelantan FC to replace Frank Bernhardt based on his vast experience coaching clubs in Indonesia since 2013.

The coach, who speaks fluent Bahasa Indonesia, said he tried his best to guide Kelantan FC but luck deserted his team, who have been plagued by various problems.

“I do not blame anyone, I think all the teams in the Super League had problems but everyone focused on Kelantan only.

“I did not have enough players and that resulted in us losing big each time. If we had the players, we could have been on par with the other teams,” he said.

Meanwhile, KUFC caretaker coach Nazrulerwan Makmor said he would leave his fate at the hands of the club’s management.

“All the players and coaches have contracts until the end of this month. Players who have received offers from other teams should not wait because nothing is certain here.

“If the management calls me for talks in the next week or two, we’ll discuss, otherwise I will look for another team,” he said.–Bernama
