PETALING JAYA: A mob attack following a dispute over parking space left a teacher injured and traumatised in Kota Kinabalu yesterday afternoon.

The 30-year-old teacher said he had parked his car near a shipping company warehouse close to Kota Kinabalu port, which was congested because of the state government’s Aidilfitri open house at the Sabah International Convention Centre.

He said that when he returned to his car, he was confronted by several people who allegedly made sarcastic remarks about him parking there.

When the group became hostile, he said, he tried to leave, but accidentally hit another vehicle while reversing. He fled the scene but was pursued by men on more than four motorcycles.

The men allegedly hit his car using helmets at a traffic light near Jesselton Quay, causing him to collide with a van and another car.

He claimed the group also shattered the driver’s side window and rear windscreen of the car.

The teacher sustained minor cuts to his cheek and neck from broken glass and was treated at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

“Never in my life have I been so afraid. Now I’m worried I might be targeted by the same people,” he said.

Police have remanded five suspects to assist in the investigation after both sides lodged police reports.
