Chief justice, IGP to get Sabah’s highest honour

Chief Justice Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh and Inspector-General of Police Khalid Ismail are among 1,026 recipients of state awards in the Sabah governor’s birthday honours list.

KOTA KINABALU: Chief Justice Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh has been awarded Sabah’s highest honour with the title Datuk Seri Panglima in conjunction with the birthday of Sabah governor Musa Aman tomorrow.

Wan Farid is one of three recipients of the Seri Panglima Darjah Kinabalu. The other two are Inspector-General of Police Khalid Ismail and businessman Abdul Farish Abdul Rashid.

They head the list of 1,026 recipients of state honours, awards and medals.

A total of 79 people have been awarded the Panglima Gemilang Darjah Kinabalu (PGDK), which carries the title “Datuk”, including the navy’s Eastern Fleet commander Vice Admiral Khir Junaidi Idris and the army’s 5th Infantry Division commander Brigadier-General Shamshor Jaafar.

Other recipients are Royal Malaysia Police secretary Abdul Rahman Kassim, the governor’s private secretary, Izharudin Jalaludin; Sabah Islamic affairs department director Awang Juri Awang Tahir; and Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd chairperson Saadiah Aziz.

Also honoured are Universiti Malaysia Sabah’s deputy vice-chancellor Rossita Shapawi, and senior social sciences lecturer Lee Kuok Tiung.

Among political leaders conferred the PGDK are Kinabatangan MP Kurniawan Naim Moktar, Sungai Manila state assemblyman Hazem Mubarak Musa, former Labuk assemblyman Abdul Rahman Kongkawang, Beaufort PKR chief Dikin Musah, Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah acting youth chief Azrul Ibrahim and Sulaman Gagasan Rakyat Youth chief Ghazali Hajiji.

A total of 117 people will be conferred the Ahli Setia Darjah Kinabalu, 192 the Ahli Darjah Kinabalu, 260 the Bintang Setia Kinabalu, 249 the Bintang Kinabalu, 113 the Certificate of Honour, and 13 will be made Justices of the Peace.
