Man nabbed in probe into fireworks being lit on road

Police confirmed that the incident shown in a viral video had taken place in Seri Alam on Wednesday.

PETALING JAYA: Johor police arrested a 21-year-old man after a video was widely shared showing fireworks being lit on the road.

The suspect was nabbed at his home in Kampung Pasir Putih, Pasir Gudang, Johor at 11pm, following a tip-off, Harian Metro reported.

“We confirm that the incident took place in Seri Alam on Wednesday,” Victor Genason, acting police chief of Seri Alam, was quoted as saying.

Police are also investigating the case for negligent conduct with explosive substances.

The arrest of the 21-year-old comes in the wake of a fireworks stall catching fire in Nibong Tebal, Penang, which destroyed the stall and damaged a motorcycle and three air-conditioning units at a nearby house.

A 15-second video of the incident showed sparks and fireworks flying into a nearby restaurant as its workers scrambled to pull down the shutters.
