PETALING JAYA: The Melaka government is planning to provide at least one dedicated rest centre in each district for the state’s gig workers, who are currently estimated to number more than 5,000.
Chief minister Ab Rauf Yusoh said the “Rider Pitstops” would be set up in strategic locations for gig workers to rest and wait for orders or customers, Bernama reported.
“The state government will also add four new passenger pickup locations for p-hailing at Melaka Sentral, Pantai Klebang, Melaka Hospital and EON Bandaraya Melaka,” he was quoted as saying in Ayer Keroh last night.
Rauf said the state government is always open to receiving applications, complaints, views and requests for assistance from gig workers in the state, which will be coordinated and compiled before being submitted to Putrajaya.
He said the state government will also distribute RM50,000 in Ramadan contributions to gig workers in Melaka as a token of appreciation for their role in the state’s economy.
