KUALA LUMPUR: The public does not need to resort to panic buying over concerns that the Middle East conflict could affect imports as the supply of essential goods is sufficient, particularly for the upcoming Aidilfitri festive season.

Domestic trade and cost of living minister Armizan Mohd Ali said the government would identify alternative sources of supply should any exporting country suspend exports due to the conflict.

“I would like to assure the public not to worry and not to engage in panic buying as the supply of essential goods for the festive season is sufficient,” he told a press conference here today.

Armizan said the government would implement price controls on 27 essentials during the festive season, including yellow onions, red onions, red chilies, long beans and coconut milk. He said dhal was an additional item included this year.
