PETALING JAYA: The university student who went viral on social media for a photograph of him allegedly stepping on a Quran will be charged in court tomorrow, says the Attorney-General’s Chambers.
In a statement posted on Facebook today, the AGC named the student as S Vikneswaran, and said he would be charged under Section 295 of the Penal Code for defiling a sacred object with the intention of insulting Islam.
Vikneswaran will also be charged under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities.
It was previously reported that a Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) student had been remanded on suspicion of insulting Islam on social media.
On Friday, Pahang police chief Yahaya Othman said police had completed the investigation paper for the case.
Yahaya also said yesterday that police received 62 reports on the matter and recorded statements from 43 witnesses.
