PETALING JAYA: Ketua Pemuda Umno Kinabatangan Mohd Naim Kurniawan Moktar memenuhi tiga prasyarat penting untuk menggalas tanggungjawab sebagai calon Barisan Nasional (BN) bagi PRK Kinabatangan, tegas Ketua Umno Sabah Jafry Ariffin.

Jafry berkata, anak bekas ketua Umno Sabah Bung Moktar Radin itu memenuhi prasyarat legitimasi organisasi, penerimaan akar umbi dan keupayaan membawa mandat rakyat.

Keupayaan Mohd Naim Kurniawan memenuhi prasyarat itu penting, katanya, kerana dalam kerangka sains politik, kesinambungan kepimpinan bukan sekadar berkisar soal keturunan semata-mata.

“(Mohd Naim Kurniawan) dipilih melalui pertimbangan institusi parti, disokong jentera akar umbi dan membawa nilai kesinambungan perjuangan yang telah diterjemahkan melalui khidmat, bukan simbolik semata-mata.

“PRK Kinabatangan bukan ujian individu, tetapi ujian terhadap kestabilan institusi politik, kepercayaan rakyat dan keupayaan BN mengekalkan mandat pembangunan di kawasan yang strategik dan mencabar,” katanya dalam kenyataan, lapor Bernama.

Jafry yang juga menteri pelancongan, kebudayaan dan alam sekitar Sabah berkata, Umno Sabah menyambut baik langkah itu dan akan berdiri teguh, bersatu serta fokus memastikan suara rakyat Kinabatangan terus terbela secara berprinsip, berwibawa dan berterusan.

Terdahulu, Pengerusi BN Zahid Hamidi mengesahkan Mohd Naim Kurniawan dinamakan sebagai calon mewakili gabungan itu pada PRK Kinabatangan akan datang.

‎Kerusi Parlimen Kinabatangan dan DUN Lamag kosong selepas penyandangnya, Bung Moktar, meninggal dunia pada 5 Dis lepas.

‎Suruhanjaya Pilihan Raya (SPR) menetapkan hari pengundian bagi PRK Parlimen Kinabatangan dan DUN Lamag pada 24 Jan tahun depan, manakala penamaan calon dan pengundian awal masing-masing pada 10 dan 20 Jan.

‎Bung Moktar berjaya mempertahankan kerusi DUN Lamag pada PRN Sabah ke-17 pada 29 Nov lepas.
