Videos with vague claims don’t prove anything, says DAP MP

Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng questioned the authenticity of claims made in a video recorded by controversial businessman Albert Tei.

PETALING JAYA: A DAP MP has dismissed a viral video alleging that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is linked to the discreet recording of Sabah politicians connected to the mining scandal.

Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng questioned the authenticity of the claims in the video recorded by controversial businessman Albert Tei, saying the allegations were vague and provided no evidence of anything.

“It is irresponsible and dishonest for anyone to use a doctored clip like this to attack the prime minister. If the accusers truly have facts, they should present real proof and stand by their claims openly. Hiding behind distortion and anonymity says everything about their credibility.

“The prime minister will not be judged by shadows and rumours created for viral drama. He should only be judged by verifiable facts, not a video that wouldn’t meet even the lowest standard of evidence anywhere in the world.

“Malaysia deserves better than baseless allegations disguised as ‘exposés’,” Lim said in a statement.

He also urged Malaysians not to be misled by the video recorded by Tei, who is standing trial on two counts of giving bribes, describing it as a cheap political gimmick.

The video clip showed a woman claiming to be a proxy for Shamsul Iskandar Akin, who yesterday resigned as senior political secretary to the prime minister.

She claimed the prime minister gave the green light for Tei to record his discussions with several Sabah politicians, including state ministers and assemblymen, concerning mineral exploration licences in the Bornean state.

Tei has also claimed that he spent RM629,000 on Shamsul, including on renovations for properties linked to the PKR man, as well as premium cigars and custom suits, according to Malaysiakini.

This has led to calls for a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission probe of the Melaka PKR chief.
