17,615 early voters cast ballots in Sabah polls

PETALING JAYA: A total of 17,615 early voters came out to cast their ballots from 8am today for the Sabah election, says the Election Commission.

EC secretary Khairul Shahril Idrus said a total of 58 early voting centres opened throughout the state, closing at 5pm.

“A total of 8,347 military personnel and their spouses, and 10,696 members of the police and General Operations Force and their spouses were eligible for early voting in the 17th Sabah election.

“92.5% of them, or 17,615 voters, fulfilled their responsibilities,” he said in a statement.

A total of 1,784,843 Sabahans are eligible to cast their ballots in the polls which will see 596 candidates vying for 73 seats in the Sabah state assembly.

The candidates comprise 74 independents and representatives from over 20 parties – ranging from federal coalitions to established local outfits and newer, lesser‑known groups.
