KUALA LUMPUR: Seorang bekas pegawai khas menteri dihukum penjara enam tahun dan denda RM8.8 juta hari ini selepas didapati bersalah menerima rasuah berjumlah RM1.765 juta tujuh tahun lalu.

Hakim Mahkamah Sesyen Suzana Hussin menjatuhkan hukuman itu selepas memutuskan bahawa pihak pembelaan gagal menimbulkan keraguan munasabah dalam kes Saifullah Minggu.

Saifullah, bekas pegawai kepada menteri pelancongan, seni dan budaya, juga diperintahkan menjalani tambahan tujuh tahun penjara sekiranya gagal membayar denda tersebut.

Lelaki berusia 34 tahun itu menangis ketika hakim menyampaikan hukuman.

Bagaimanapun, Suzana membenarkan penangguhan hukuman sementara menunggu rayuan di Mahkamah Tinggi dan menetapkan jaminan sebanyak RM280,000. Beliau juga menasihati Saifullah supaya berubah.

“Awak masih muda. Saya harap awak benar-benar insaf dan berubah menjadi lebih baik,” katanya.

Pada Februari tahun lalu, mahkamah memerintahkan Saifullah membela diri selepas mendapati pihak pendakwaan berjaya membuktikan kes prima facie bagi lapan daripada 19 pertuduhan terhadapnya.

Lapan pertuduhan itu berkaitan dakwaan menerima rasuah berjumlah RM1,765,000 oleh Saifullah daripada pemilik Inter Bev Network Sdn Bhd, Ronald Seto, melalui Roslan Lahada.

Jumlah itu sebagai dorongan untuk Saifullah mendapatkan tender perkhidmatan pengeluaran jenama dan kreatif untuk Inter Bev.

Kesalahan itu dilakukan di Red Box Karaoke dan kedai kopi Coffee Bean di Pusat Beli-belah Pavilion, Kuala Lumpur; di pejabat setiausaha sulit kanan kementerian di Putrajaya; di Vipod Residences di Temasya Anggun, Glenmarie, Selangor; dan di stesen minyak Petronas di Dengkil.

Kesalahan berlaku antara 21 Dis 2018 dan 1 Mac 2019.
