DUBAI: Emirates ordered 65 Boeing 777X planes in a deal worth US$38 billion on Monday, delivering a boost to the US manufacturer on day one of the Dubai Airshow.
“It’s a long-term commitment that supports hundreds of thousands of high-value manufacturing jobs,” Emirates Group chairman and chief executive Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum told a press conference.
Dubai-based Emirates, the world’s most profitable airline, was already the biggest Boeing 777 customer. It now has 315 Boeing wide-body, or long-haul, planes on order.
It has expressed frustration at repeated delays to deliveries of the 777X, which had already been pushed back from 2025 and then 2026.

I hadn’t considered this angle before. It’s refreshing!
