DAP has called for Parliament to be dissolved at the same time as the state assemblies of Johor, Malacca, and Sarawak to allow for simultaneous elections.
Party secretary-general Anthony Loke said during the Johor DAP convention today that unified polls would reduce costs, especially for Sarawak.
“This is an important decision for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to make, but our view is that we are inclined to have simultaneous elections,” he said.
Loke cited Election Commission data showing the six-state polls in 2023 cost RM420 mil, while the upcoming Sabah election is expected to cost RM116.8 mil.
He also expressed confidence in DAP’s performance, urging members to maintain their spirit ahead of the polls.
“There is nothing to worry about if our members remain strong,” he said, adding that Johor DAP must retain its five parliamentary and 10 state seats.
The Malacca state assembly is set to dissolve automatically in December next year, while Sarawak’s election is scheduled for February 2027 and Johor’s in April the same year.
The 16th general election, meanwhile, must be held by February 2028. —Nov 2, 2025
