Chery Super Hybrid platform launched in Malaysia – Tiggo 7, Tiggo 8 PHEV CSH with up to 1,200 km range

Chery Malaysia today officially launched the Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) system in the country, despite the Tiggo Cross having already debuted the branding with the 1.5 Hybrid CSH’s launch two weeks ago. Still, the company has seen fit to introduce the technology in greater detail to the Malaysian market – after all, the upcoming Tiggo 7 CSH and Tiggo 8 CSH are plug-in hybrids (PHEV), which the Tiggo Cross CSH is not.

A series-parallel hybrid system, CSH is said to combine the best of hybrid and fully-electric powertrains – it involves a 143 PS/215 Nm 1.5 litre turbo Miller-cycle four-cylinder engine with 44.5% thermal efficiency, which Chery says is among the industry’s highest.

Paired with a 204 PS/310 Nm electric motor integrated within a stepless dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT150) which delivers up to 98.5% mechanical efficiency, the system delivers a combined 347 PS and 525 Nm of torque. Chery claims a combined range of up to 1,200 km and an EV-only range of up to 90 km (cycle undisclosed).

The company is keen to emphasise the IP68-certified battery’s durability – besides being dust- and water-resistant, and capable of withstanding up to 95 degrees Celsius, the 18.3 kWh LFP battery was recently submerged in a metre-deep tank of seawater for over 53 hours before being reinstalled into a Tiggo 8 CSH (and it still worked) as part of a test in Jakarta.

Earlier in China, the Tiggo 9 PHEV CSH vehicles endured a series of extreme safety tests, including spiral rollovers and head-on vehicle collision, a seven-car stack test, 55 km/h side intrusion, a 4.9-metre vertical drop, and 720 hours of salt spray exposure.

In terms of charging, the battery can swallow up to 40 kW DC (30-80% in 19 minutes) and up to 6.6 kW AC (30-80% in three hours), while three-pin charging would get you from 10-100% in 8.5 hours. If any of the above-mentioned numbers seem familiar to you, it’s because CSH is closely related to Jaecoo’s Super Hybrid System (SHS).

Both the Tiggo 7 PHEV CSH and Tiggo 8 PHEV CSH were already previewed at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025, and the units shown here today largely mirror the ones shown then.

So far, Chery Malaysia has not explicitly said that these will reflect Malaysian-market units, or even if either will be locally-assembled (CKD), but what we’ll get shouldn’t veer far from these.
