Following the start of order taking in January this year, the Isuzu D-Max 1.9L 4×2 MT Low Ride is now formally launched in Malaysia. Targeted at business owners, the Low Ride serves as a workhorse alternative to the existing Single Cab model that was introduced when the facelifted D-Max went on sale here back in May 2024.
With the Low Ride, you’re getting a B20-compatible RZ4E-TC 1.9 litre inline-four turbodiesel engine that makes 150 PS (148 hp or 110 kW) at 3,600 rpm and 350 Nm of torque from 1,800 to 2,600 rpm. This is paired with a six-speed manual transmission that sends drive exclusively to the rear wheels.
The Single Cab also gets this engine and transmission pairing, but with the addition of a selectable four-wheel drive system (Terrain Command) and accompanying rear differential lock. Additionally, the 4WD drivetrain for the Single Cab can also be had with the more powerful 4JJ3-TCX 3.0 litre inline-four turbodiesel engine that serves up 190 PS (187 hp or 140 kW) at 3,600 rpm and 450 Nm from 1,600 to 2,600 rpm.
Apart from powertrains, the Low Ride also differs significantly from the Single Cab in terms of dimensions, particularly when it comes to the rear deck. As such, the type and size of goods being carried will influence the purchase decision of business owners. Isuzu Malaysia is keen to point out the Low Ride’s loading deck is a comfortable 78 cm above the ground, some 5% lower than the high ride’s load height. Here are the figures for comparison:

As for pricing, the Low Ride retails at RM92,199.20 on-the-road without insurance in Peninsular Malaysia, RM94,279.60 in Sabah and RM94,170.30 in Sarawak. The Single Cab is more expensive with a starting price of RM100,949.20 in Peninsular Malaysia, with the asking sum growing larger should you opt for the higher-displacement engine – prices vary in Sabah and Sarawak too.
Both the Low Ride and Single Cab can only be had in Splash White, but the new most affordable D-Max variant eschews the black bumpers for body-coloured ones. The Low Ride also gets 16-inch alloy wheels (215/70 profile tyres) instead of the Single Cab’s steelies.
The rest of the Low Ride’s kit list is similar to the Single Cab and includes multi-reflector halogen headlamps, bulb-type lighting units (fog lamps, DRLs and taillights), a 3.5-inch monochrome LCD multi-info display, a urethane steering wheel (with tilt and telescopic adjustment), a single-DIN head unit with Bluetooth, two speakers, manual air-conditioning and fabric seat upholstery (Single Cab gets vinyl).
Two airbags come as standard for these workhorses along with ABS, EBD, brake assist, ESC, traction control, hill start assist, hill descent control, two reverse sensors, brake override system and emergency stop signal. The dual-cab Low Ride has ISOFIX child seat anchors for the rear seats, although there are no air vents in the back.
The standard warranty for both the Low Ride and Single Cab is five years or 150,000 km (whichever comes first), and each purchase comes with roadside assistance.
