Kapasiti efektif 30.3 % tidak bermakna bekalan hanya untuk 30 hari

GEORGE TOWN: Kapasiti efektif Empangan Air Itam yang merekodkan kadar 30.3 peratus bukan bermakna kadar itu hanya mencukupi untuk bekalan air selama 30 hari, menurut Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang (PBAPP).

Ketua Pegawai Eksekutifnya K.Pathmanathan berkata anggaran tersebut mengelirukan kerana terdapat kelayakan penting bagi tempoh masa tersebut iaitu ‘tanpa hujan’ dan apabila terdapat hujan di kawasan tadahan air (KTA) Air Itam, maka bilangan hari tersebut akan berubah.

“Pada pertengahan April ini, tidak dinafikan kapasiti efektif Empangan Air Itam adalah rendah iaitu 30.3 peratus tetapi PBAPP masih aktif mempertahankan simpanan yang ada menerusi Pelan Tindakan Empangan Air Itam 2024 (AlDAP 2024).

“PBAPP mempunyai pilihan untuk mengetatkan lagi kawalan bekalan air AIDAP bagi mempertahankan baki simpanan empangan untuk jangka masa yang lebih lama, namun ia boleh menyebabkan beberapa kesulitan kepada sesetengah pengguna di kawasan perkhidmatan Air Itam,“ katanya dalam kenyataan hari ini.

Pathmanathan menjelaskan PBAPP melaksanakan AIDAP 2024 sebagai langkah kontingensi apabila kapasiti efektif empangan menyusut kepada 32.8 peratus pada 5 Feb lepas dengan bermulanya fenomena El Nino penuh di negeri itu.

Menurutnya keputusan AIDAP 2024 dalam tempoh 70 hari lepas perlu meyakinkan pengguna air di Air Itam bahawa kapasiti efektif empangan 30.3 peratus tidak harus menjadi penyebab panik, malah PBAPP sedar pelepasan dari empangan itu mesti diuruskan dengan teliti hingga musim hujan 2024.

Beliau turut memaklumkan perkhidmatan bekalan air masih normal di kawasan perkhidmatan Air Itam walaupun PBAPP tidak mengetahui tempoh masa musim panas dan kering ini akan berakhir.

Justeru, beliau mengulangi rayuan agar pengguna terutama di Air Itam untuk terus mengurangkan penggunaan air sebanyak 10 peratus pada April, Mei dan Jun ini.

Ahad lepas, Ketua Menteri Chow Kon Yeow memaklumkan hujan lebat di beberapa kawasan di negeri ini tidak membantu meningkatkan paras Empangan Air Itam yang kini mencatat tahap ketiga kritikal iaitu pada kapasiti 30.8 peratus.
