GEORGE TOWN: Kerja-kerja penyambungan dua paip lencongan 600 milimeter (mm) merentasi Sungai Perai yang bermula malam esok akan mengambil masa selama 16 jam dan dijangka siap pada pukul 2 petang Rabu ini.
Ketua Menteri Pulau Pinang Chow Kon Yeow berkata pelaksanaan tugas itu akan menyebabkan kira-kira 120,000 pengguna di sebahagian kawasan Daerah Timur Laut dan Barat Daya mengalami gangguan air berjadual, namun beliau memberi jaminan bekalan dapat dipulihkan semula secara berperingkat dalam tempoh 24 hingga 48 jam.
“Kita harap kerja-kerja ini disempurnakan dalam tempoh 16 jam atau lebih cepat, dan yang penting paip itu berfungsi kerana ia membabitkan lencongan dari paip asal 1,350mm kepada dua paip yang lebih kecil (600mm),” katanya kepada pemberita ketika ditemui selepas merasmikan projek naik taraf Linear Garden di Padang Kota, di sini, hari ini.
Chow yang juga Pengerusi PBAPP berkata keseluruhan 120,000 pengguna di kawasan Barat Daya yang terlibat dengan gangguan air susulan kebocoran besar pada saluran paip 1,350mm di dasar sungai Sungai Perai pada Selasa lepas, sudah mendapat semula bekalan pagi ini.
Semalam PBAPP dalam kenyataan memberitahu kerja pengalihan dan sambungan paip 600mm merentasi Sungai Perai yang sepatutnya dimulakan hari ini ditangguhkan kepada 11.30 malam hari Selasa, selepas mengambil kira permintaan pengguna di kawasan terlibat yang mahukan ‘tempoh henti’ lebih lama sebelum pelaksanaan Pelan B itu.
Kejadian paip bocor di dasar Sungai Perai pada Selasa lepas adalah kali ketiga selepas insiden pada bulan Disember dan Januari lepas.
Berikutan itu, Kerajaan Negeri Pulau Pinang telah melaksanakan kaedah pemasangan paip gantian sementara merentasi Sungai Perai, yang berfungsi sekurang-kurangnya lapan bulan, sementara menunggu penggantian paip kekal di dasar sungai itu siap. -Bernama
