MALACCA: Malacca recorded more than RM115.5 million in tithe collection as of Dec 15, which is a 12.02 per cent increase compared to the RM103.1 million collected during the same period last year.
State Education, Higher Education and Religious Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Rahmad Mariman said the collection for this year comprised RM109.8 million in property tithe and RM5.75 million in fitrah tithe.
“Tithe from income recorded the highest collection of RM66.8 million, followed by business tithe (RM22.5 million) and savings tithe (RM18.2 million).
“Meanwhile, the lowest collection was agricultural tithe at RM49,199, in addition to livestock tithe (RM53,543),” he said.
He said this when met by reporters after the business tithe presentation ceremony by corporate agencies that was officiated by the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Malacca Tun Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam in Ayer Keroh.
Rahmad said the number of tithe payers stood at 48,685, which is down by 4.3 per cent compared to 50,875 during the same period last year.
He said the state government hoped that other corporate agencies would pay the business tithe to Zakat Malacca to help them meet the needs of the eight asnaf groups in the state.
At the ceremony, 15 agencies paid their business tithes totalling RM6.16 million. -Bernama
