KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will host the International I-Ching Conference in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Malaysia-China diplomatic relations, in Sungai Petani, Kedah which will be held before the middle of next year.
National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang said the conference would specifically discuss the history of the Bujang Valley and obtain information from sources in China.
“We will try to compare the latest facts from this conference about Kedah of old from existing information,“ he told reporters after attending the International Symposium of the International Committee for Museology Asia Pacific 2023 (ICOFOM ASPAC) here today.
Earlier, Aaron had said that the history of Ancient Malay civilisation had been extensively recorded by a Chinese figure, Bujannga Yi-Jing, who once set foot in the Bujang Valley in the 7th century.
Meanwhile, Aaron said the ministry through the Department of Museums Malaysia will introduce security guidelines and collection management procedures next year to increase security controls to overcome the theft of museum collections in the country.
He added that museums currently conduct surveillance through closed-circuit television (CCTV) and limit officers or staff to the repository space to prevent theft.
In addition, he said the Ministry of National Unity will introduce the Cashless Museum initiative from January next year in stages.
“This is to promote cashless payments and it will be implemented in Kuala Lumpur first followed by other states in stages,“ he said.
Earlier, the organisation of the ICOFOM ASPAC International Symposium with the theme ‘Museums Towards Community Recovery’ was a platform for sharing knowledge and expertise in museology by museum professionals towards the sustainability and well-being of museums globally.
It saw presentations by museum professionals from Malaysia, China, Scotland, Germany, Thailand and Singapore.–Bernama
