
PETALING JAYA: Firecrackers are a customary part of festive celebrations in Malaysia, but a recent incident on Deepavali (Nov 12) raised concerns about the responsible use of these explosive materials.
A TikTok video displaying a firecracker display within PPR Lembah Subang 1 at midnight circulated widely on social media, drawing significant backlash from online users.
One of the users that shared the original video that goes by epu_88, captioned the shared video with, “Do you want to play firecrackers or do you want to burn the houses?”
The footage sparked a massive reaction online, prompting authorities to take action.
On Nov 13, authorities apprehended those involved in the firecracker display.
Although the culprits’ identities remain undisclosed, a TikTok video posted by user siopie21 displayed the capture, garnering 163,700 likes in the last 20 hours.
This incident has highlighted the importance of using firecrackers in a safe and responsible manner during festive celebrations.
