KUALA NERUS: A 16-month-old girl tragically lost her life after she was discovered unconscious in a car at a public university here.
Initial investigations by the police, who received the report of the incident at 4:30 p.m. yesterday, revealed that the child’s father had inadvertently forgotten to drop her off at the daycare centre located on the university campus before heading to his workplace at the same university.
Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rahim Md Din, the District Police Chief of Kuala Terengganu, stated that the police were also informed by the university’s health centre that the child had been confirmed as dead.
“Upon receiving the report, the police promptly rushed to the scene and found the child had passed away.
“The body was sent to the Forensic Medical Department at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) for a post-mortem examination.
“At this point, the police are still conducting their investigation,” he said when approached by the media after the 2024 Air Disaster Relief Exercise (EX-PENYU) at Sultan Mahmud Airport (LTSM) today.
Abdul Rahim mentioned that the police would be taking statements from the child’s caregivers to complete the investigation in accordance with Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
Aside from that, he advised people to refrain from making any assumptions that would jeopardise the inquiry and endanger the victim’s family’s emotional health.
