DAP expels four members for contesting against party’s chosen candidates

DAP has sacked four members for running as candidates against the party’s authorised contenders in the upcoming state polls.

Three DAP members voluntarily resigned after being excluded from DAP’s list of candidates, according to the party’s disciplinary committee chairperson Ngeh Koo Ham.

“The disciplinary committee has a standing decision that any member who becomes a candidate against the party’s authorised candidate in any election (state or Parliament) will be sacked automatically,” Ngeh said in a statement today.

The four individuals who were sacked are Satees Muniandy, P David Marshel, Chng Boon Lai and B Gunalan.

Satees, who is a former Bagan Dalam assemblyperson, left DAP on July 28 and announced his decision to contest independently against DAP candidate Kumaran Krishan.

David, who is a former Seberang Perai city councillor, resigned from DAP on July 26 to run as an independent candidate for the Perai state seat, which was previously held by caretaker Penang deputy chief minister Prof Ramasamy Palanisamy, who was also removed from the candidate lineup.

Moreover, Chng also quit DAP on July 27 and will be contesting in the state polls under the Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM) ticket in the Kuala Kubu Bharu state seat in Selangor.

Meanwhile, Gunalan is running for office under Perikatan Nasional (PN) ticket for the Pandamaran state seat, which is also in Selangor.

Ngeh issued a stern warning to DAP members against aiding the sacked candidates during their election campaigns, as any such action would result in disciplinary consequences.

“Members are also reminded that disciplinary actions will be taken against those who act against the party’s interests,” news portal Malaysiakini quoted him as saying. – Aug 4, 2023
