Capital A in fintech tie-up with digital bank in the Philippines

PETALING JAYA: Capital A Bhd has entered into a partnership with UnionDigital Bank (UDB), the digital bank subsidiary of Union Bank of the Philippines, for financial-support-related services in the Philippines.

The deal will see Capital A’s three key subsidiaries, AirAsia, airasia Superapp and BigPay make financial technology or fintech more accessible to its customers in the Philippines.

Under the deal, UDB will provide embedded finance in partnership with BigPay within the airasia Superapp travel platform, the main booking channel for AirAsia flights in the Philippines.

The tie-up aimed to deliver a seamless and enriched travel booking experience for airasia Superapp’s users and redefine the way its Filipino clients travel and manage their finances, Capital A said in a statement yesterday.

It aimed to enhance the travel experience of frequent fliers with flexible payment options including a Fly Now, Pay Later offer available in airasia Superapp, and exclusive co-branding deals.

“With UDB as our proud partner, we are now on our way to create a future where travel meets innovative financial solutions that facilitate everyone’s dream journeys with unparalleled ease. We look forward to working with UDB to redefine travel coupled with fintech as an accessible and enriching experience,” said Capital A CEO Tan Sri Tony Fernandes.

The partnership with UDB allows BigPay, a leading mobile wallet providing financial services in Malaysia and Singapore, to expand into the Filipino market.

“BigPay is one step closer to making our financial services highly accessible in the Philippines,” said BigPay CEO Zubin Rada Krishnan.
